On our second visit to see Adam Yates we found him adapting to a dramatic decrease in building projects. It had clearly been a tough and humbling few years that had seen him getting his hands dirty again, sometimes grafting away on site with his fellow builders. Adam had developed an attachment to a rather rusty horseshoe moustache which made him look as if he was auditioning for the Village People which concerned us a bit. This was actually down to his eleven-year-old daughter who, having seen some old pics of Adam with facial hair had asked him to grow it back. She now thought he was the coolest dad ever and he had no intention of toning it down either. One doomed and drawn-out relationship had recently brought Adam, emotionally, to rock bottom and the only woman now with influence over him was his eldest daughter. With the father-daughter relationship blossoming beautifully, Adam had decided he was going to up sticks and move to where the kids lived with their mother to be a more accessible and hands-on dad, and that's how we lost touch.
